What we offer
CADS
CADS (children’s able and disabled sports) are a series of unique sport, health and leisure activities organised by the sport and well-being team at Seashell Trust.
All activities are suitable for both able and disabled children and young adults. Making sport fully inclusive is important to us and this is reflected in our events. We make sure that all of our activities can be accessed by all young people no matter what their ability or disability, and one to one support can be provided for those with more complex needs. A great deal of preparation goes into each event to provide the best experience for all young people involved.

SHORT BIOGRAPHY
I have worked at Seashell Trust about 10 years, I have worked in a variety of different houses working my way up, to RSWAR, helping to manage house of 4 students with variety of different needs. I run on a Tuesday night before the CADS climbing club an activity session which can be either climbing or rebound. I work with all the students across the site form 5 years olds right up to 26 year olds, all with varying needs and requirements. I’m the only staff site at present to be able to use a climbing kite harness so the less able can access the wall.
I also work closely with the CADS team supporting them during the holidays, we now also run a CADS climbing club on a Tuesday evening. I support off site organisation to access activities.
Structure and Learning Outcomes for Seashell Climbing Club
· Learning to take turns and having to wait their turn whilst that another person is on the climbing wall.
· To follow instruction from the climbing instructor whilst accessing the climbing wall, either using signing, PECS or verbally.
· Learn to have to wait behind the white line on the floor till it is their turn to climb.
· Being aware of their body whilst climbing in relation with the hand holds, aware of what their legs and feet are doing at the same time using their arms and hands to gip the holds.
· To be encouraged to push themselves a bit further and to try a more difficult wall and to increases their self-esteem and confidence.
· To learn about how to put on a climbing harness on the correct way (where all the straps go and buck up and refeed back to lock them) and making sure that it is secure, and also be able to take it off when they have finished climbing.
To recognise the colour of the hand hold and to be able to select the wall with the colour of the hand holds. Some walls just have one colour of hand hold where the other walls have got two contrasting colours for easy recognition. (The walls have been kept to a minimum of two colours to help the Autistic children, young people and adults that access the wall)
